General Notes on Polishing Cars, Boats, Bikes, and Aircraft.
Today, cars, boats, bikes, and aircraft are painted with 2-Pac or equivalent. 2-Pac paint is more rigid than acrylic paint; an intermediate polish is most suitable for correcting this type of surface.
E-Valence recommends a cautious approach when performing a corrective procedure. Most polishes are best applied with a free-spinning random orbital polisher, medium pads, and initially at a slow speed. Transitioning from a free-spinning random orbital polisher to a direct drive polisher significantly improves the cutting process. Likewise, increasing the polisher’s speed or using a coarser pad will lead to a more aggressive cutting action.
Consider all these aspects before selecting the most suitable approach.
It is recommended to trial the least aggressive option first, then move to a more aggressive approach if needed.
After completing the polishing process, E-Valence recommend applying APD to the corrected surface, APD is the ultimate environmentally friendly paint and metal protection application.
For more information on APD please read our post E-Valence APD Paint Protection for Aviation.

For applying Ultra-fine Polish, we recommend using a free-spinning rotary orbital polisher and a soft to medium polishing pad.
Directions for Use
– Ensure the surface is clean and free from all contaminants.
– Apply a small amount of Intermediate Polish evenly across the chosen pad.
– Polish with a slow, up-and-down, parallel motion, leaning towards the cautious side until you understand the necessary adjustments and the Polish’s capability.
– Wipe off with a dedicated clean 270-330 GSM microfibre cloth.
– Proper application will produce a deep, rich shine.
This water-based formulation will continue to process for over two minutes if necessary. However, test the product at thirty-second and one-minute intervals until you are confident it is the correct product for the correction. After correction, wipe off using a 270-330GSM microfibre cloth.
Finish off by applying APD or Preeminent 50% Carnauba Wax.
Intermediate Polish
This product is 100% silicone-free, making it a safe choice for professional painters. It is also 99% VOC (Volatile Organic Compound-free.
Intermediate Polish removes medium scratches and heavy swirl marks, leaving the corrected surface flawless. A mechanical polisher paired with a medium course polishing pad is the most effective combination for this one-step process. Intermediate Polish can also be applied by hand in difficult-to-reach areas inaccessible to mechanical polishers. Intermediate Polish is suitable for correcting 2-Pac paint or addressing medium scratches on vehicles with acrylic paint.
For applying Intermediate Polish, we recommend using a free-spinning rotary orbital polisher and a medium polishing pad.
Directions for Use
– Ensure the surface is clean and free from all contaminants.
Working a section at a time, apply a small amount of Intermediate Polish evenly across the chosen pad.
As a water-based formulation, it will continue to process for over two minutes if necessary. However, test the product at thirty-second and one-minute intervals until you are confident it is the correct product for the required correction. After correction, wipe off using a 270-330GSM microfibre cloth.
Intermediate Polish is the recommended polish for polishing aircraft and the gelcoat on boats. For more information, email info@e-valence.com.au
Finish off by applying APD or Preeminent 50% Carnauba Wax to protect the surface you have corrected.

Metal Polish
Metal Polish is 100% silicone-free, making it a safe choice for professional painters. It is also 99% VOC (Volatile Organic Compound-free.
Light scratches, buff marks, tarnishes, dust mites, and swirl marks can be easily removed using E-Valence Metal Polish. This one-step process is best applied by hand. However, it can be cautiously applied using a mechanical polisher and a soft pad.
Directions for Use
– Apply a small amount of polish evenly to the chosen pad.
– Polish as usual, erring on the side of caution until you understand the necessary correction and the polish’s capabilities.
– If using a mechanical polisher, start with a low speed setting as part of this understanding process.
– If polishing chrome, remember that the chrome plated coating is only 15% of the Copper, nickel chrome coating. Take this into account when accessing the area to be polished.
This water-based formulation will continue to work for over two minutes if needed. However, test the product at thirty-second and one-minute intervals until you are confident it is suitable for the correction. Afterwards, wipe off using a 270-330GSM microfibre cloth.
To achieve a protected showroom shine, spray and wipe over with Chrome & Metal Polish, then finish with E-Valence APD.
For more information on polishing chrome, be sure to read or post Polishing & Enhancing Chrome and Stainless-Steel Wire Wheels.
The APD will protect the metal from contamination for twelve months. (Depending on usage)
Perspex Polish
Perspex Polish is an ultra-fine polish designed for cleaning and correcting all Perspex and transparent plastic surfaces. It removes unsightly yellowing and fine scratches from Perspex and transparent vinyl surfaces. This product is particularly suitable for plastic rear windows of sports cars and Perspex aircraft screens.
Directions for Use
– Clean the Perspex surface with Fabric & Vinyl Soft Top Cleaner, Wash ‘n Seal with Carnauba Wax, or plain water before applying.
– If applying manually, use a small amount on a soft grade 1 polishing pad and polish broadly in a circular motion.
– Wipe to a shine with a clean 270-330 GSM microfiber cloth.
– If using a mechanical polisher, only employ a Random Orbital Free Spinning machine and a soft pad.
When polishing Perspex screens, you should polish beyond the affected area. This helps keep the surface even and prevents low spots that could develop the rainbow effect.
Remember, transparent plastic surfaces are usually soft. Refer to the points discussed above in the section ‘General Notes on Polishing Car, Boats, Bikes, and Aircraft.’
