APD – Paint Protection and Drag Reduction

$149.95 GST Inclusive

APD (Anti-Parasite Drag) is a multi-layered polymer free-flowing sealing solution developed by E-Valence to protect the paint and metal surfaces of luxury cars, boats, bikes, and planes.

It has been stress-tested and field-tested for the past three years. Correctly applied, it will reduce skin friction by up to 68% on aircraft and race cars.

Although designed for the aviation and motor racing community, it has protection and repellent capabilities that benefit other transport fields. Correctly applied, it significantly reduces parasite build-up on aircraft, cars, caravans, RVs, and boats. Any parasite splash that may occur can easily be removed with water. More stubborn debris may be easily removed with the appropriate E-Valence wash product.

Water-based APD is best applied with Super-Soft Water and a soft wax sponge. Alternatively, it may be sprayed onto the surface using a paint gun. To be effective, it must be dried off immediately.

Cars, boats, bikes, and aircraft should be thoroughly cleaned and polished with Intermediate Polish before applying APD.

More Than Just a Paint Protector

As a multi-layered polymer, free-flowing sealing solution, it delivers a dried coating of  ~0.5 micron, with a residual weight ~50g per litre.

A helicopter or single-engine aircraft can have APD applied in 20 minutes using two people.

Coverage for A320-sized aircraft <12 litres.

APD layered polymer free-flowing solution forms an electrostatic bond with the surface, covering microcracking in paint.

Flexes with aircraft structures, maintaining friction reduction properties.

Inhibits water penetration but allows condensation to breathe out.

Reduces insect and other debris accumulation by up to 90%, allowing a reduction in wash protocols.

Extends the life of Aircraft Paint

The application’s life span is naturally dependent on usage. It is formulated to maintain effectiveness for twelve months before degrading (after all, it is biodegradable.) This period can be considerably longer when applied to equipment in a stored facility. The application may be topped up at any time during the twelve-month period. The new applications build on and seamlessly bond with any previous applications. Topping up the leading edges of the aircraft is recommended.

As APD is not crystalline, it will flex under load and, therefore, has a high resilience against mechanical loads.

Empirical testing has confirmed a reduction in friction drag of up to 68%.

Anecdotal testing on a Robinson R66 has confirmed the following.

  • A 7% thrust setting saving when cruising.
  • A significant speed advantage when cruising with like aircraft, Confirming the above.
  • A 7% fuel saving compared to the same craft without E-Valence APD coating applied.
  • Informal test on a Robinson R66 produced indicative fuel reduction of 8.5% vs OEM figures.

A separate signed report on this test is available upon request.

It is recommended that the surface be washed thoroughly with E-Valence Aviation Wash and Corrected with Intermediate Polish if necessary before applying APD.
